Module Descriptions:
Customer Service and Sales Techniques
This module gives an in-depth understanding of the client’s needs and will develop skills to enhance communication over the telephone and face to face. Students learn how to make a sales presentation and to be aware of the responses of clients. Further detail is given on the aspects of closing sales, overcoming client difficulties, telephone techniques, handling awkward customers & handling clients with special needs.
Tourism Office Operations
This module provides an overview of the travel and tourism industry with particular emphasis on the travel related sectors. It outlines the categories of travel agencies and provides the skills and knowledge required by an Australian and international travel consultant to carry out clerical and other duties within a travel operation. Topics include the tourism industry, resources within an agency, clerical and correspondence procedures including itinerary preparation, use of the OAG (Official Airways Guide), telegraphic transfers and bank drafts, travel documents such as passports, visas, airport taxes, currency, travellers cheques and more.
Australian Destinations and Attractions
This module provides information on the tourist regions and main cities for each state and territory. It also reviews a selection of significant destinations and attractions, enabling travel consultants to make appropriate recommendations to clients. Topics include an overview of Australia & the various tourist regions within each state.
Australian Travel Products
The aim of this module is to provide skills and knowledge on a range of Australian travel products, enabling you to advise clients and complete appropriate booking forms. Topics include operations of an inclusive tour company, coach products, cruising, rail, hire car, accommodation and travel insurance.
Domestic Australian Airfares
This module introduces the skills of fare calculation and ticketing relating to domestic airlines. It covers topics such as types of aircraft, sources of information, reservations, 24-hour clock, fare calculation, ticketing procedures – mainly focussed on e-ticketing, holiday sales guides and special services. The module comes with an Australian Fares Manual.
International Destinations and Attractions
This module covers the location of major world tourist regions and cities of interest to Australian travellers. It reviews a selection of significant destinations and attractions in each region, enabling consultants to make appropriate recommendations to clients. Topics include the major regions of the world.
International Travel Products
Covers the different forms of travel products available worldwide (excluding air products). Students will become familiar with facilities offered and equipment used by overseas transport, accommodation and travel insurance operators. Topics include operations of an international tour company, coach, rail, cruise, car hire, accommodation and travel insurance requirements.
Make Presentations
Students learn about a variety of presentation styles and resource and how to prepare and plan for a presentation. Students will put together their own presentation using the skills they have learnt.
Normal International Airfares (equivalent to industry F & TI)
This module provides the skills to calculate international air fares and write international tickets as required for international travel. Topics include IATA three letter codes, passenger air tariff use, fare basics, issuing passenger tickets, mileage calculations, children and infant fares, indirect travel limitations, higher intermediate points, one-way backhaul rule, round and circle trips, currency regulations, taxes, add-ons, changes to tickets, credit cards and commission. This module comes with an International Fares Manual.
Promotional International Airfares
This module covers calculations of international promotional and nett fares. Topics include calculation of fares, interpretation of promotional fare rules and writing of tickets for travel from Australia to various destinations around the world.
Galileo “live” Computer Training
The Galileo “live” computer reservations system (CRS) training is available face-to-face during the day only.
This module covers making, amending and cancelling of flight reservations (as well as providing an overview of these same aspects for hotels and cars). Students are also instructed in how to process ancillary services such as frequent flyers, special meal requests, seating, bassinettes etc.
CrossCheck Travel
CrossCheck is a back-office accounting system for Travel Agents. This module shows you how to create a client profile in a data base and then create a clients itinerary and costs for their trip. It also covers receipting and accounting of clients’ money from the Travel Agent to the supplier of the product.
Business Studies
This module is combined with many of the above modules but you will be shown how to write a letter, draft an email and other business documents using current computer software systems.
Domestic and International Consultancy Practise
These modules are very hands on and require role-plays where students are required to act out the role as a travel consultant serving a client and proceed to sell travel products to meet the client’s needs.
This module incorporates all the students have learnt in previous modules and ties them all together to show the student how a real situation would work.

- Academic: the NSW Board of Studies Year 11 or equivalent.
- International students - English Language Proficiency: IELTS 5.5 or above, or equivalent.
- International students must be 18 years old or over.
